"You're not safe anywhere." Belarus counterattacks

The turning point was the presidential election in Belarus of August 9, 2020. As a consequence of the regime's repression of the opposition, many activists were forced to leave the country, including Svetlan Cichanouska, a counter-candidate of Lukashenko in the election. The opposition leader continued to operate abroad. The Coordination Council (quasi-opposition parliament) and the United Transitional Office (government in exile) were established.
