Two Patriot systems from Germany deployed in Poland had Russian drones on their radar, which violated Polish airspace. They helped track them down, but they didn't take any action.

Two German Bundeswehr air defence systems were active in tracking down Russian drones that breached Polish airspace during the night – reported the agency Reuters, citing information from safety circles. Earlier sources in NATO reported that the Patriot systems deployed in the region detected drones on radar but did not take combat action.

On purpose, but not "attack."

According to unofficial information from NATO sources, the Alliance does not classify the intrusion of Russian drones into Polish airspace as an attack. According to Reuter's agency, the first signals indicated that the inlet from six to 10 drones had occurred on purpose.

This was the first time an alliance aircraft has faced possible threats in allied airspace. Polish F-16 fighters, Dutch F-35 aircraft and Italian Awakes reconnaissance aircraft participated in the night operation.

In connection with the event, Poland asked NATO to consult on the basis of Article 4 of the Treaty. This was reported by Prime Minister Donald Tusk during his speech in the Sejm.

CDU politician: a consistent and hard reaction needed

He demanded a consistent and hard consequence on Wednesday (10.09.) of the ruling politician in Germany, Roderich Kiesewetter, a associate of the Bundestag abroad Affairs Committee. He called for the transportation of the German long-range Taurus rockets to Ukraine, which Kiev had long requested.

"Russian drones fly over Poland and Moldova. The words of solidarity are out of place. Finally, we must respond consistently and firmly! We gotta halt talking about peace negotiations. Now it is essential to deliver the Taurus systems to Ukraine and to supply its mass military support, as Russia benefits from our weakness," wrote Kiesewetter on X.

"It is essential to equip Ukraine so that it can repel Russians, including military attacks in Russia. Our freedom and self-determination are tested by Russia and are in large danger," he stressed.

"Russia has seen how our systems work"

German political scientist Nico Lange besides calls for greater support from Ukraine. "After that night, during which anti-aircraft defence had problems with just a fewer Russian drones over Poland, all NATO partners should consider whether Ukraine should be made available tools to destruct Russian drone factories" he wrote on X.

In an interview with the news channel "Welt TV" Lange estimated that the intrusion of drones into Poland "was not an accident".

“Russia has seen how our systems work. She collected the data. I think we request to respond powerfully and consistently to this now," said the expert. He besides suggested extending NATO's airspace safety to western Ukraine.

On Wednesday afternoon, German defence minister Boris Pistorius is to talk in the Bundestag forum, as well as for the media, where he will most likely mention to current events in Poland.
