During his speech on 8 December 2025, held on the occasion of the peculiar symposium of the Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz entitled "Return Point – and what's next? The function of BfV in the German safety architecture’, Sinan Selen warned against the anticipation of expanding sabotage, cyber attacks and disinformation campaigns in Germany, especially in the context of the upcoming regional elections. According to BfV, Selen stated that Russia's aggression towards Ukraine "is more than a conflict for Ukraine's territory, alternatively a litmus paper in the ongoing systemic conflict between authoritarianism and democracy", and that "we Europeans are being attacked here and now: hybrid, virtual and analogue – and with consequences".
