German fleet larger than planned

Reuters citing German military sources informed Reuters about the change of plans of the government in Berlin. The F127 frigates are intended to replace 3 ships of kind F124 Sachsen which were commissioned from 2004 to 2006. The F-127 is mainly meant to execute air and rocket defence tasks. Although this ship is classified as a frigate, in fact its size and combat capabilities let to classify it more towards the destroyer. Ships are expected to have nearly 10,000 tons of buoyancy, 160 metres long and over 20 metres wide. For comparison, the replaced “Saches” are 143 metres long, 17 widths and “only” 5.6 1000 tons of buoyancy.
