The German auction home Felzmann in Neuss withdrew the bidding of 623 artifacts related to the victims of the Auschwitz and Majdanek camps and the Katyn crime. The auction of the private collection "The panic strategy part II 1933–1945" was to take place on Monday, but after the intervention of the Polish authorities, including president Karol Nawrocki was cancelled.
Among the objects were, among others, the Auschwitz prisoner's letter, the paper on sterilization from Dachau, the Gestapo card, the star of David from Buchenwald and the works of Bronisław Czech. The catalogue besides included material from Majdanek and souvenirs from Katyń's victims, including telegrams and correspondence of prisoners of war.
President Karol Nawrocki demanded action to recover the souvenirs, even by buying out and adding costs to the reparation. Minister of Culture Marta Cienkowska announced the determination of the origin of the facilities and their recovery if they were authentic. MKiDN demands full documentation and access to collection materials.
The IPN and the Institute of War failure pointed out that trafficking in specified objects is morally unacceptable and frequently involves looted property.
German Minister Wadephul besides condemned "doing business at the Holocaust" and announced his desire to clarify the matter. Among others, the global Auschwitz Committee and the Fritz Bauer Institute were against the auction.
