Culturally rich Germany. Increase in circumcised women by over 80 percent

The German household Ministry presented research. It follows that in Germany the phenomenon of women's circumcision is growing.

On Wednesday in Berlin, the Ministry of household presented investigation on alleged female circumcision. They estimation that there are 86.5 000 women adult victims of circumcision in Germany. Estimates besides mention to 11.1 1000 girls whose problem could be "affected" and 25 000 girls who were considered "insecure".

Early estimates come from 8 years ago. In 2017, the number of adult women who suffered from circumcision was estimated to be 47,359. During this time, the increase was over 80 percent.

Mareike Wulf, Secretary of State at the German Ministry of the household described the estimates as ‘shocking’. She said Female genital mutilation is “unthinkable and is simply a peculiarly severe form of gender-based violence”. She besides mentioned the physical and intellectual effects of suffering throughout her life.

She then estimated that in Germany circumcision of women was punishable, even if it took place abroad.

Unfortunately, government alone is not enough. We must do everything in our power to effectively defend women and girls in Germany," said Wulf and added that the ministry supports projects to prevent and educate them.
