Germany: Alcohol consumption is to be banned at railway stations from mid-October

Deutsche Bahn plans to ban alcohol consumption at all 5400 railway stations in Germany from October 15. The exception is the restaurants operating in the station.

The “Bild” diary states that the ban is to apply to all kinds of alcohol, including beer.

Deutsche Bahn expects the ban on alcohol to improve safety and reduce the number of alcohol-induced conflicts. The ban is to be enforced by railway safety services and national police.

Those caught drinking will request to be ordered to leave the station immediately. In the event of repeated infringements, a permanent ban may be imposed on access to the station.

‘Enough of this. The measurement has changed. Now we will act even more decisively. We want a bigger order.
and safety at our stations and on our trains. For me, there is only 1 thing that matters: the protection of our employees and passengers," said the “Bild” head of Deutsche Bahn Evelyn Palla.

The ban on alcohol is now in force
at any large German stations, including Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg and Cologne. The first data from Deutsche Bahn shows that after the introduction of specified a measurement the number of incidents has decreased, the safety of passengers has increased and the cleaning staff has less jobs.
