Germany: We will not participate in the mission to unlock the Ormuz Strait

Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirmed Wednesday in the Bundestag that Germany would not participate in the Strait Unlocking Mission Ormuise with military means as long as there is simply a war between the US and Israel and Iran.

– As long as the war continues, we will not participate in military activities to guarantee free shipping in the Ormuz Strait," announced Merz in the German Parliament, presenting the government's position before the EU summit in Brussels.

“To date, both the plan (such an operation) and the mandate of the United Nations, the European Union or NATO are missing,” noted the head of the German government, adding that Berlin was not consulted before the US attack on Iran. “We would advise against (America) choosing this road,” he added.

Merz stated that this does not preclude Germany's participation in diplomatic activities for the fast end of the war.
