Poland will participate in a coalition of supporters of Ukraine, but will not send troops to its territory. Our function will be to be liable for the logistics of this operation and the Polish commander will take an crucial position there. Paweł Zalewski, the deputy chief of the MON, talked about it in TVP Info. He added that the safety of the border with Russia and Belarus remains a precedence for us.

The leaders of European countries met in Berlin on 15 December with the president of Ukraine Zelenski Volodymyr. The summit aimed to discuss a peace plan for Ukraine and safety guarantees from allies after the possible end of the war with Russia. The gathering was preceded by two-day negotiations between US and Ukrainian delegations.

The package of agreed safety guarantees for Ukraine includes, among others, the concept of sending a military mission to its territory – so-called volunteer coalitions – under European leadership and with the support of the United States. Its task would be to support the reconstruction of Ukrainian armed forces and to aid guarantee safety in airspace and at sea, including through operations carried out in Ukraine. This raises the question of what function Poland will play in the coalition.

RECLAMA

“We are in a coalition of volunteers, but our function will be to be liable for the logistics of this operation,” said Paweł Zalewski, Deputy Minister of National Defence, in the program “Guest of the Morning” in TVP Info. As he added, the planned stabilisation mission is to make 4 Commands: for land, air and sea operations and a separate Support Command. The second would be located in Poland, and the Polish commander would lead it.

– With a combat mission declared sending soldiers of the French and British. We do not send specified soldiers, but our military contribution will focus on the territory of Poland – Zalewski stressed. He added that our country needs soldiers on the ground, it is primarily about maintaining safety at the borders with Russia and Belarus.

Paweł Zalewski besides referred to the question of Ukraine's possible membership of NATO. The resignation of these aspirations is 1 of the conditions for peace imposed by Russia. – The past of the planet knows various phrases. I never usage definitive wording unless we are actually dealing with something definitive. NATO continues, Ukraine continues, we will see what the future will bring, and present the most crucial thing is what is happening here and now," said the Deputy Minister.

At the same time, he admitted that he would not build excessive hope for Ukraine's membership of the Alliance. “For now we have reached an agreement that creates a certain level for Ukraine to undertake circumstantial concessions for Russia. The problem is that so far I have not seen on the Russian side a fair will to suspend arms and make peace," Zalewski said.

He said that the West is ready to accept Ukraine as its partner and ally, and that is the basis for serious talk with Russia. “The Ukrainian Army is simply a immense resource of the West and 1 of the key safety guarantees of Poland,” added the deputy chief of the MON.
