Poland will not send troops to Iran. This conflict does not straight concern our security," said Prime Minister Donald Tusk after today's Council of Ministers. This is simply a consequence to president Donald Trump's call for allied assistance in ensuring the safety of shipping by the Ormuz Strait.
An Indian vessel "Nanda Devi" carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) reached a port in the state of Gujarat on 17 March 2026 after Iran allowed him to cross the Ormuz Strait.
Today's Council of Ministers Prime Minister Tusk started with a message on the possible usage of Polish troops in Conflict Against Iran. “Poland will not send troops to Iran,” said the head of the government, who wanted to cut all speculation on this subject, as he said. “This conflict does not straight concern our security,” Tusk added. According to the Prime Minister, there is no origin for concern, due to the fact that the government does not foresee any expedition towards the Persian Gulf. As he assured, this attitude of the Polish authorities does not rise doubts from our allies.
“Poland has another NATO tasks. This applies to both our land, air and sea forces," said the Prime Minister. "What we have at our disposal in the sea must service the safety of the Baltic. And it is our allies, including Americans, who realize very well," he added.
The Prime Minister's declaration is simply a consequence to president Donald Trump's call to join the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran and aid unlock the sea traffic by the Ormuz Strait. Maritime transport through the Persian Gulf has been importantly restricted in view of the hazard of being shelled by Iranian troops. This led to a steep emergence in oil prices in global markets.
The U.S. president addressed his request primarily to European allies and countries from the Far East – China, Japan or South Korea – which, in his opinion, are much more dependent on the natural materials from the Persian Gulf than the United States. “It is appropriate for those who benefit from the strait to aid guarantee that nothing bad happens there,” Trump said in an interview with the “Financial Times”. “If there is no answer or the answer is negative, I think it will be very bad for NATO’s future,” added the president of the United States. In his opinion, U.S. allies could support US forces with mine vessels and commando troops to patrol bay waters and defender transit security.
