In mid - October, patients will benefit from a fresh lung cancer prevention program, reported the National wellness Fund on Friday. The fund signed the first agreements with low-dose CT CT (NDTK) chest implementers. Ultimately, the program is to be available nationwide.
The NFZ stated in its communication that in September competitions were announced for the implementation of a fresh prevention program for lung cancer. Until now, the Fund has selected the first contractors and concluded the first contracts in 3 voivodships: Świętokrzyskie, Małopolska and Wielkopolska. Subsequent competition proceedings are decided.
– We aim to safe these benefits in all voivodships. We want to contract at least 32 outposts, but we do not regulation out that there will be more," says Paweł Florek.
The first patients will be able to apply for the program in the second half of October 2026. You won't request a referral. Facilities performing NDTK will be found utilizing the NFZ search engine "Where to heal". The Fund ensures that the search engine is updated on an ongoing basis.
Benefits in the fresh programme are unlimited, which means that the Fund will pay for each survey carried out.
The prevention programme for lung cancer will be open to people aged 55-74 with a long-standing past of smoking, people aged 50-54 with the same tobacco burden and additional hazard factors (e.g. occupational vulnerability to asbestos, household past of lung cancer), as well as people aged 55-74 who besides meet the condition of smoking past and 5 years earlier completed lung cancer treatment. Low-dose CT scan is safe for patients and allows to detect changes in the lungs (e.g. tiny nodules) at a very early phase erstwhile the cancer is completely treatable.
According to the data of the National registry of Cancers of 2022, Poland has about 20,7 1000 fresh lung cancer cases per year. due to this cancer, about 26,000 people die annually, or more than 1/5 of all cancer deaths.
