Moldavia Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced that his government would support home producers and exporters who would endure as a consequence of the U.S. president Donald Trump's decision to introduce additional import duties. 1 of the countries covered by the 31 % tariff is Moldova.

On April 3, Recean called the U.S. decision "an effort to balance trade", while stressing that the strategical partnership between Chisinau and Washington remained intact.

"We profoundly believe that we can proceed to work together and share our goals," the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister added that the United States accounts for only 2.5% of Moldova's abroad trade, while 3 quarters of exported goods go to EU, UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

Despite this, the Prime Minister acknowledged that he understood the concerns of producers who are trying to enter the American market.

Let us remind you that on April 2, 2025 US president Donald Trump started a customs waraualmost all countries of the world. The fresh import duties ranging from 10% to 50% will depend on the country of origin of the goods.
