Newflabber: Businessman Alexandru Munteanu, who has lived in Ukraine for 20 years, candidate for Prime Minister of Moldova

The Moldovan authorities officially confirmed their intention to appoint Alexandru Munteanu, a businessman who has lived in Ukraine for more than 20 years, to be Prime Minister. The decision of October was informed by the leader of the ruling Action organization and Solidarity (PAS), Igor Grosu.

Grosu announced that the organization would wait for the approval of the seats of the Constitutional Court, and then, after the first parliamentary gathering and the formation of clubs, will present the candidacy of Munteanu for approval.

"Moldova needs competent people with large economical experience who will be able to lead the process of integration with the European Union and support the country's economical development. We thank Mr Munteanu, a man of awesome career, that he has agreed to aid right now, erstwhile the country needs it especially," wrote Grosu.

Alexandru Munteanu, a 61-year-old entrepreneur, is referred to as an American of Moldovan origin. He's never been active in politics before, and he's more of a private person. Public information shows that Munteanu is 1 of the founders of the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova (AmCham Moldova), President-founder of Alliance Française in Moldova (for more than 25 years), as well as Co-Chairman of the Advisory Council for South-East Europe and Eurasia (BAC SEE).

In 2018, he applied for a seat on the board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, representing the interests of American and global companies operating on the Ukrainian market. At that time he presented himself as a "Moldavian American of Moldavian origin, surviving in Ukraine for 20 years".

Munteanu is besides the founder of private investment firm 4i Capital Partners, specializing in investment management in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova.

Let us remind you that on 13 October, the erstwhile Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean, announced that he did not intend to re-enter the position of Head of Government and besides plans to resign from the mandate of the MP.
