The talker of the Parliament of Szalwa Papuaszvili called Georgia's “attack on the economy” informing the French and Polish embassies about the hazard of travelling to the country.
"It is very worrying that we are now witnessing attacks on Georgia's economy after the failed attacks on Georgian politics. Tourism is 1 of the most crucial sectors supporting the improvement of the well-being of our nation, and trying to undermine it is an attack on Georgia's national interests," Papuaszvili stressed.
According to him, claims by abroad diplomats about mass refusals to enter the Georgian border do not correspond to reality. He cited comparative data on refusals and deportations:
- From 2024 to 2025 Georgia refused to enter only 9 Polish citizens, while Poland did not let 1,250 Georgian citizens – 140 times more.
- Georgia refused to enter 16 citizens of France, while France – 145 citizens of Georgia, or 9 times more.
- In general, Georgia refused to enter 184 EU citizens, while the countries of the European Union – 4825 Georgian citizens, 26 times more.
- Furthermore, during the same period Poland expelled 249, France 280, andThe full EU – 2463 citizens of Georgia.
On May 29, the French and Polish embassies warned their citizens of the expanding number of cases of refusal to enter Georgia to foreigners, including EU citizens. Diplomatic representations reported that the hazard is expanding if a individual in the past has participated in protests in Georgia or has spoken about the situation on social media. At the same time, as indicated in the statements, the return to Georgia from foreigners may berequired payment of the fineimposed during protests.
