This is simply a fundamental change in the approach to household safety, with the aim of drastically reducing the number of victims of fires and of killings that take tragic toll all year.
Why is that necessary? The numbers don't lie!

What changes does the fresh law make?
The fresh rules require all owners of housing and houses to assemble certified smoke and smoke detectors. In practice, this means that each property must be equipped with:
- at least 1 carbon monoxide sensor in rooms where the fuel is incinerated (e.g. oven, fireplace, gas stove),
- smoke detector in each flat or single-family house,
- additional sensors in multi-family buildings – details will be specified in additional guidelines for housing communities.
In the case of recently built buildings, developers will be required to install informing systems already at the construction stage.
Penalties for deficiency of sensors – up to PLN 5,000!
The main controversy is that the fresh government provides for severe financial penalties For deficiency of mandatory sensors. Property owners who neglect to comply with fresh regulations can anticipate a mandate of 500 to 5 000 PLN. Checks will be carried out random, and as part of regular inspections of multi-family buildings by fire brigades and construction inspectors.
Who's going to fund the acquisition of sensors?
One of the main questions is financing issue. The government has foreseen support programmes for those with the lowest incomes. Property owners can number on funding of 50-100% of costs acquisition of sensors within programs specified as Safe Home. What sensors to buy?
Not all sensor meets fresh standards. The rules require that these be certified equipment complying with EU standards. This means that the sensor must have certificate EN 50291 for cool sensors and EN 14604 for smoke detectors. These devices shall be fitted with a sound alarm of at least 85 dB, which will effectively inform residents in case of threat.
