Tome Rose posted an entry on Tuesday on the European Union's relation with the US. He started it with praise to the head of the MFA Radosław Sikorski.
“A long time ago, a celebrated slogan appeared in the American tv commercial: “When EF Hutton talks, people listen.” The same is actual of Radek Sikorski. superb and highly respected Minister of abroad Affairs of Poland. Apart from being a large Polish patriot, he is 1 of the most experienced and reasoning statesmen on the European stage. So erstwhile Radek Sikorski speaks, people should listen!! There is undoubtedly quite a few fact in Mr Sikorski's fresh observations that Americans do not realize many things in the context of the EU, and I undoubtedly belong to those Americans who have much to learn," Rose started his entry.
He then went on to analyse the US-EU relationship. "The US has no fair trade relations with the EU that they deserve," he wrote. In this way he referred to the comment of the head of the Polish Ministry of abroad Affairs Radosław Sikorski on American misunderstanding of the EU.
"However, president Trump and the American people realize 1 thing: the United States is not enjoying the fair and fair trade relations we deserve. Just as the EU rightly puts its interests first, the president (Donald) Trump does nothing else, putting America's interests first," he added.
President Trump's Nominat referred to the words of Radosław Sikorski, who died in a Monday interview with Polsat.
Radosław Sikorski: in the US, not everyone understands what the EU is about
The head of the MFA commented on Rose's earlier statement, before announcing his nomination, in which the American seemed to propose that Poland had to choose whether to “come closer to the centre of power in the European Union” or “be a sovereign, arrogant country that fulfils its allied commitments.” “The substance is very serious, due to the fact that I have the impression, or even the knowledge, that not everyone in the United States understands what the EU is about,” said Sikorski.
Rose complained not only about duties on US goods, but besides about another barriers to trade, specified as VAT (and the fact that European exporters can claim its return), favouring European companies in public procurement, or European standards on exhaust emissions, the process of approval of medicines and data protection, which he believes be to limit the influence and capacity of American companies in these areas.
Rose calls for "fair and fair relations"
"Almost all week Americans read in local newspapers articles on the EU's fines on our technology companies, accusing them of violating antitrust law and imposing penalties of many billions of dollars," Rose writes on Tuesday.
At the same time, he hopes that “on top of Poland”, the US and the Union will be able to “establish fair and fair trade relations”. "The European Union and the United States would be an unstoppable force that would make a better, healthier, richer, freer and safer world!!!" he concluded.
Rose’s criticism repeats many of the arguments frequently cited by president Trump, who for years claimed that the Union has treated the US unfairly and even worse than America’s enemies. This week Trump announced the imposition of duties aimed at equalising the level of duties imposed in common trade, which is likely to mean an increase in customs duties on EU goods. On Monday Trump announced 25-proc. customs duties on imports of steel and aluminium, the Union of which is the 3rd largest supplier.
