If anyone thinks that the shipyards in the Könivetsky Oblast are in agony, he's wrong. Yantar mill in Królewiec began investigating another 2 modern Russian frigates of task 11356, intended for the Indian Navy. Units are expected to be delivered to the client soon.

This process is the final phase of the contract that was signed between the Russian Federation and India in 2018. This information was confirmed by the CEO of Rosoboronexport, Aleksandr Micheev, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

As Micheyev pointed out, the construction of both frigates is already complete, and the tests started is simply a key step before they were transferred to India. The first unit, called "Tushil" (formerly Admiral Butakov), is to be delivered to the Indian Navy in 2024. The second frigate, “Tamala” (formerly Admiral Istomin), will go to India at the turn of 2024 and 2025.

Contract for construction of Russian frigates and past of cooperation

The contract for the construction of the 4 frigates of task 11356 was signed in 2018 and its value was $1.6 billion. The Indian Navy already has six units of this type, 3 of which – “Teg”, “Tarkash” and “Trikand” – were built in Królewiec.

The fresh frigates are intended to complement the existing fleet, strengthening the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy.

Technical specifications and meaning of the frigate

Project 11356 frigates are multipurpose units originally designed for export. Their buoyancy is about 4 1000 tons, and the crew is 220.

These ships are characterized by advanced speed, reaching 30 knots, and the ability to operate for 30 days without interruption. These features make frigates a versatile tool for carrying out various tasks at sea.

Another step in Russian-Indian cooperation

The transportation of task 11356 frigate is another phase in long-term military cooperation between Russia and India. As part of this partnership, the 2 countries proceed joint projects that contribute to strengthening India's position as 1 of the key players at sea.
