New Cancer in Szczecin

Eight 120-millimeter self-propelled mortars Cancer went to the 12th Mechanized Brigade. This is the last organization ordered by the Ministry of Defence. In total, the Polish Army has 124 specified vehicles. – Switching to Raki is like jumping to modernity – the artillerymen from the Szczecin brigade repeat.

A company combat module reached Szczecin. It consists of 8 120-millimeter Mortar Cancer, and 4 artillery command wagons (AWDs), 3 artillery ammunition trucks (AWUs) and 1 artillery weapons repair vehicle (AWRU). They've been in the unit for days. We are presently preparing them for service. On December 12, mortars will leave for the field, where the crews will carry out the first shootings – said Lt. Krzysztof Sykała, commander of the support company, which the Raki have made. His subordinates have dealt with these vehicles before. Among another things, they received training under the supervision of specialists delegated by the manufacturer, namely Huta Stalowa Wola. They besides had the chance to look at their colleagues. W The Szczecin brigade fresh mortars have served for 3 years. So far they have been utilized by support companies from 2 motorized battalions. From now on, this kind of equipment will be utilized by a company from the 3rd battalion.

– For us, the control to Raki is simply a solid technological leap – admits Sgt. Earlier, he and his colleagues utilized towed mortars M-98 and M-120. The old equipment had to be moved to place, set up, and after the shooting folded and attached back to the vehicle. It took a long time. “The cancers let to start operations much faster, even due to the fact that they are moving on their own,” explains the officer. But that's not all. – The fresh equipment, unlike the older one, is equipped with a fire control strategy that automatically develops the mark coordinates and mortar settings. The mark remains to set the tower and at the right time to press the trigger – explains peculiar Specialist Jarosław Górski, who in the Cancer crew is simply a target. Of course, if necessary, I can operate the equipment manually. I have a laser ranger at my disposal. In specified a case, however, the mark must be within my sight – emphasizes the scope of special. In general, however, thanks to all the modern solutions, the crew of the fresh mortar to take position, shelling the mark and retreating to a safe place so as not to exposure themselves to the opponent's counterattack, only request about 2 minutes.

The cancers that have just reached Szczecin are part of the last organization ordered by the Ministry of National Defence. Three contracts were concluded for equipment supplieswhich MON signed in 2016, 2019 and 2020. In total, more than 120 Cancers and many specialized vehicles assigned to them went to the Polish Army. The vehicles include the 21st Podhalan firearm Brigade, as well as the 15th and 17th Mechanized Brigade. 8 mortars Poland besides transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
