It started with the entry of the head of government, in which he turned to Nawrocki and PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński. "Time to get up off your knees, gentlemen. People are looking," wrote Donald Tusk, referring to the attitude of any of the leaders of the Polish right on the global stage. The Prime Minister's harsh words met with an even sharper repost of president Nawrocki.
The verbal clash between the Prime Minister and the president is the aftermath of the fresh U.S. president Donald Trump's statement, which depreciated the function of NATO contingents in missions in Afghanistan alongside American soldiers. Trump stated, among others, that the allies “were of no usage to them” and that they were “holding back” and “off the front line”. This was met with the reaction of politicians of the Polish government, who reminded that respective tens of thousands of Polish soldiers served in Afghanistan, and respective twelve fell.
"There is no uncertainty that Polish soldiers are Heroes. They deserve respect and thanks for their service. 44 brave Poles died in Afghanistan: 43 soldiers and civilians. They will always be in our memory!” Nawrocki wrote in consequence to Trump's words. PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński, in turn, stated that "Donald Trump has specified a forced language".
Tusk to Nawrocki and Kaczyński: time to get up from your knees. Nawrocki answers: 3rd decade Lord kneels
In relation to these words, Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on both politicians to “get up off their knees”. "Time to get up off your knees, gentlemen. People are watching," he wrote on social media.
The entry did not stay without the reaction of president Nawrocki. The leader has issued a sharp repost.
"Free jokes, Prime Minister, the 3rd decade you kneel, from Berlin to Brussels. It besides happened in Moscow," wrote Karol Nawrocki. “There truly are places in the planet where no 1 expects to kneel. It's just your bad habits," he added.
