Introduction: The End of an Era

Paramount Skydance signed a contract to buy Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is simply a giant whose portfolio includes CNN group and TVN group.
If the transaction is completed by September 2026, the Polish media scenery may change beyond recognition.
Although theoretically the transaction requires the approval of 3 powerful entities, the real chances of blocking it seem illusory.
1. WBD Shareholders
For them, it is mainly the financial consequence and the share premium. Ideology loses to Excel.
2. US Department of Justice (DOJ)
In the ‘old’, democratic order, the concentration of Fox, CBS, CNN and the American TikToka in any hands would be unthinkable and blocked.
3. European Commission
Brussels seldom shows courage in its clash with American giants. In practice, it frequently treats specified transactions as a simple exchange of 1 investor from the US to another.
The Ellison household era and media crisis in the US
What happens in the United States under Trump, many commentators describe as the birth of a fresh media oligarchy.
One of the main actors is David Ellison – a billionaire and Trump's political ally.
Ellison had previously been accused of inciting an attack on Capitol after Trump's losing election to Joe Biden.
In 2024 he tried to take over Paramount, but regulators blocked this transaction. Trump's return to the White House, however, worked like a choice – the barriers began to disappear.
Ellison did not just buy a movie studio or a streaming platform. The goal was Do not pass it on to others.
When taking over the holding company controlling the company, it gained influence on the CBS network and its 240 local stations. The changes occurred quickly:

What does that mean for TVN?
In Poland there is simply a belief that the “safe” introduced by the Donald Tusk government in late 2024 – the inclusion of TVN and Polsat on the list of strategical entities – will defend the station from hostile takeover.
The problem is that this mechanics has never been tested in practice. I wouldn't number on him.
Why can TVN fall into the hands of nationalists?
1. Political pragmatism
It is not known who will regulation in Poland after 2027. If power is restored to the right, the “safe” introduced by the Tusk Government can be utilized in the other way as a tool to facilitate the acquisition of the station by a friendly fresh power.
2. The precedence of ideology over business
Economically, this is logical and business-compliant, but look at Trump, Kaczyński, Czarnek or Nawrocki?
They're people so amoral, they'll do anything they think is beneficial. They will not lose – they will bargain as shortly as they have power.
Thesis for 2027
I bet a brave but trend-based thesis:
Prior to the 2027 parliamentary election, the president of TVN may be appointed by Karol Nawrocki.
In a planet where global media capital increasingly overlaps with politics, journalistic independency becomes a deficit good.
TVN – alternatively of being a window to the planet – can become another component of the propaganda puzzle of the fascist-bolshevik dictatorship.
