Nawrocki made his decision. Polish soldiers stay in Lebanon

President Karol Nawrocki decided to extend the mission of the Polish Military Quota in Lebanon until 31 August 2026. He believes that he is supporting the UN mission UNIFIL to the south of this country.

In “Polish Monitor”, Nawrocki has already published a decision to extend the mission of the Polish Military Continent in Lebanon. It covers the period from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026. A contingent of 250 soldiers and staff will proceed to operate within the UNIFIL mission.

The main task of the Polish military contingent in Lebanon is to defend civilians and monitor the ceasefire. He is peculiarly frequently active in the area of the alleged Blue-Line, or Lebanese-Israeli border.

– PKW will carry out tasks within the framework of the United Nations Provisional Forces in the Lebanese Republic (UNIFIL – PAP) and will conduct the protection of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Beirut and the diplomatic-consular staff of this institution – it is written in the order.

Mission objectives

The UNIFIL mission has been moving continuously since 1978. Its goal is to make a buffer region on the Israeli-Lebanese border, and it now has about 10,000 soldiers and 800 civilians from 50 countries. On Thursday, the UN safety Council decided to start the withdrawal of the mission by the end of 2026.
