Magdalena Biejat, fresh Left candidate for president, informed on Wednesday that she was sending a announcement to the prosecutor regarding Karol Nawrocki. The case concerns the flat that Nawrocki and his wife were to get from an older man, Mr. George, under a life contract.
As Biejat informed in the interview at the PAP studio, the charge concerns fraud and bringing Mr. Jerzy to an adverse regulation with his own assets. In her opinion, public debate is not adequate – the prosecution should deal with the matter.
The candidate draws attention to serious doubts about Nawrocki's intentions to take over the flat in exchange for providing care, but, as the social worker's relation shows, Mr Jerzy went to the welfare home and lived in poorness for a long time.
Uncomfortable questions during the debate
The case took place after last week's presidential debate in "Super Express". During the discussion, Biejat asked Nawrocki about his position on cadastral taxation and housing program. Nawrocki replied that he was an opponent of this taxation and declared that he defends the interests of average Poles and Poles – specified as him who have “one apartment”.
As Biejat pointed out, she initially thought that the candidate simply did not realize how the real property marketplace works. – Later reports clearly show that on the contrary – she understands the mechanisms of the marketplace perfectly and can usage its pathologies – she stressed.
Further doubts and media findings
Onet portal revealed that Nawrocki owns not 1 apartment, but 2 apartments: apart from surviving in Gdańsk, where he lives with his family, he besides owns a studio apartment, which he took from Jerzy Ż. in 2017 under a life contract. In addition, in a property message from 2021, made as the president of the IPN, he showed a 3rd place – 50% ownership with his sister.
Moreover, social guardian Anna Kanigowska, who took care of Mr Jerzy from 2022 to 1923, said that the man lived in poorness and without the aid of the MOPR and its individual purchases would have nothing to eat. As she reported, she tried to intervene with Nawrocki, but unsuccessfully.
Nawrocki: “I acted in accordance with the law”
Charles Nawrocki repudiates the charges. He claims that the acquisition of the flat took place legally, and the aid he was going to supply to Mr. George is simply a separate matter. In his conversation with Bogdan Rymanowski, he pointed out that he did not consider the studio flat to be his property, despite being the formal owner of it. He emphasized that the flat was inhabited by Jerzy Z., so he did not treat it as his own.
Referring to the number of dwellings held, Nawrocki explained that the 3rd of them – entered in the property message – was in co-ownership with his sister and would formally become his after his mother's death. As for the apartment, he stated that although the law says 1 thing, he was guided by “the intention to help”.
Biejat: ‘This cannot stay unresponsive’
According to Magdalena Biejat, Nawrocki's explanations are inconsistent and unconvincing. – From the beginning, as shortly as the case saw the light of day, keys and changes versions of events," she said. In her opinion, the reaction from his staff only exacerbates the chaos and confusion around the situation.
The case of an flat handed down by an older man in exchange for care may turn into a serious image crisis for a PiS candidate. If the prosecution decides to initiate proceedings, Karol Nawrocki will gotta answer not only to the public but besides to the judiciary.
