NATO moved mission personnel in Iraq to Europe

NATO present reported a "adaptation" of its mission in Iraq (NMI) in view of the situation in the mediate East region. The Alliance has announced that all mission personnel have been safely relegated to Europe.

NATO spokesperson Allison Hart informed Reuter's agency that changes in the operation of the mission in Iraq are coordinated with allies and partners. She stressed that staff safety remained a precedence and that no additional details concerning the operation were disclosed.

NATO's leader in Europe, General Alexus Grynkewich, thanked the Iraqi authorities and associate States for their support in the safe transfer of personnel.

The Alliance noted that the mission to Iraq is advisory and training and does not participate in combat activities. Her tasks will proceed under NATO command in Naples. Political dialog and applicable cooperation with Iraq were besides ensured.
