German General Carsten Breuer was elected as the head of the NATO Military Committee, which is the highest military body of the North Atlantic Alliance," reported the current Committee chief, Italian Admiral Giuseppe Cava Dragone.
Germany in today's secret vote of the Alliance's heads of defence at its Copenhagen gathering defeated Canadian General Jennie Carignan, head of the Defence Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Breuer, who has been the head of the German armed forces since 2023, received at least 17 of NATO's 32 chiefs of defence. Germany will presume its responsibilities from the outgoing Italy in July next year and will service for 3 years.
