Estonia is considering strengthening its military presence on its strategically crucial east border by establishing a fresh military base in Narva. The country’s third-largest city, located right on the border with Russia and inhabited mostly by Russian speakers, is to become a place to station both Estonian and NATO allied forces on a rotational basis. The plan has already been discussed at a political level, and a suitable location in the city centre is presently being sought.
