National wellness Fund: 573 abortions in the first half of 2026

In the first half of 2026, 573 abortions were performed in Polish hospitals, so according to the National wellness Fund data submitted to the Polish Press Agency. Meanwhile, the Sejm passed 2 laws liberalising abortion laws.

National wellness Fund statistic show an increase in infirmary abortions in fresh years. In 2021, following the entry into force of the Constitutional Court's judgement on the protection of the life of unborn children, there was a marked decrease in their number. In the following years, however, the trend began to turn around.

According to NFZ data in 2019, 1444 abortions were performed in Polish hospitals, and 1363 were performed a year later. In 2021, this figure fell to 475 while in 2022 it amounted to 452.

The following years saw an increase: 509 abortions were performed in 2023, 793 in 2024 and 851 in 2025. By the first six months of 2026, this figure had already reached 573.

Applicable law and its blurry

The current government formally allows abortion only in 2 cases: erstwhile pregnancy threatens the life or wellness of a female or erstwhile it arises from a prohibited act.
