National Day of Memory of Soldiers Exiled - March 1
date:01 March 2025 Editor: Editorial

On March 1, 1951, in Mokotów prison, he was murdered by a shot in the back of the head of the 4th Board of the Association “Freedom and Independence”. At respective minutes intervals, then the president of the board of Colonel Łukasz Cieplinski, Adam Lazarowicz, Mieczysław Kawalec, Józef Batory, Franciszek Błażej, Karol Chmiel and Józef Rzepka died. They were escorted out tonight, under cover of night. Their final way was observed from the death row window on the first level by fellow woemakers.

This day became a symbol of the end of the real conflict with the russian occupier. End of hope for an armed victory. But for this reason, after years, he became a actual symbol of victory.

It was this day, the president of Poland Lech Kaczyński appointed, as a vacation of remembrance, those who shed blood in an uneven fight. Those who, despite overwhelming disparity of forces, did not lay down their weapons and fought against the communist government in all ways. In 2011, president Bronisław Komorowski agreed to his predecessor's request and since that year, on the anniversary of the death of the 4th WiN Board we celebrate the National Day of Memory of the Cursed Soldiers.

From now on, 1.03.25 at the Museum of Cursed Soldiers and Political Prisoners of the Polish People's Republic can be seen the exhibition "Ignacy Czwartos - Niezłomni v swietniz Polski". On 1-2 March 2025, the exhibition "Ignacy Czwartos - The steadfast against the Sovietization of Poland" is available for self-seeing.
We encourage you to visit the Museum.
