Officers of the Bieszczady Border defender Branch are alerting about the increasing scale of crimes involving paper counterfeiting. Since the beginning of 2026, more than 300 forged papers have already been revealed utilized at both border crossing points and during interior checks. The main counterfeiters are Ukrainians. They are besides frequently Georgians and citizens of another countries of the erstwhile USSR.

The process of falsifying papers by immigrants is increasing. 1 example described by the ministry was case a Georgian citizen detained late in Medicine. In his passport, false stamps confirming alleged trips to Hungary were found. The man confessed and was sentenced to probation and left Poland.

The Border defender indicates that false papers are frequently part of a wider process involving illegal stay, work or attempts to circumvent visa regulations. In fresh months, deportation activities have besides been increased – almost 900 foreigners were forced out of Poland by air in only 2025.

This phenomenon is part of a broader discussion on safety and crime among migrants. According to police data in 2024 foreigners committed more than 16,000 violations in Poland, and the most common crimes active driving under the influence of alcohol, theft and drug offences. The largest group were Ukrainian citizens, which is besides due to their largest number of immigrants, while Georgians, despite a comparatively tiny population, were notedly over-represented in any criminal statistics.

In fresh years, the services have drawn attention to the activities of organised criminal groups associated with foreigners, especially in the context of theft and economical crime. In 2024, nearly 1.9 1000 Georgian citizens suspected of various crimes were detained and any of them were later deported from Poland.

At the same time, the full image of the situation is more complex. Data indicate that foreigners are liable for about 5% of all crimes in the country, which is the consequence of lower than their share of the population. This means that, despite the single high-profile cases and the expanding number of papers found forgeries, the overall level of crime among migrants does not necessarily exceed the scale of crime among Polish citizens.

Experts emphasise that effective border control and efficient administrative procedures are crucial. Detecting counterfeit papers – specified as fake stamps or visas being processed – shows that migration force is conducive to fresh methods of circumvention. At the same time, the expanding number of checks and detentions can prove not only the scale of the phenomenon, but besides the increased efficiency of services.

The case described by the Bieszczady Border defender Branch is further evidence that paper safety remains 1 of the most crucial elements of the protection of national borders. In the face of geopolitical migration and tensions, the Podkarpacia region becomes a place where the regular work of the officers determines whether the border control strategy will stay leaky.
