A reward for death. “Gazeta Wyborcza” chose her Man of the Year

The editorial “Gazeta Wyborcza” announced the Man of the Year according to readers. The title was given to Gizela Jagielska. A doctor who worked in a infirmary in Oleśnica for a while and became celebrated for her drastic abortions. The story, however, is much more complex than says “GazetaElectoral” and it is worth telling honestly.

Mainstream media, including “Gazeta Wyborcza”, build a communicative about a doctor-hero, persecuted by a pro-life environment and thus forced to change jobs. The reality is prosaic: Jagielska no longer works in the Oleśnica infirmary due to the fact that she did not win the formal competition for medical services. The manager of the facility in the individual of the head of Agnieszka Cholewińska clearly explained that the competition procedure, including the post of head of the obstetrics and obstetrics department, was carried out in accordance with applicable laws and interior procedures. The competition was formal and transparent.

Meanwhile, readers of “Gazeta Wyborcza” reward it as a sacrifice. Is losing in a medical competition evidence of persecution now?

Between thanks and the political manifesto

She herself, curious in the ceremony, gave a speech that is barely called apolitical. Jagielska admitted that 20 years ago, erstwhile she started her specialization, she did not imagine that her work would be "mixed with politics, with views, with religion and with morality." The “Gazeta Wyborcza” award so becomes not a discrimination for outstanding medical achievements, but a public ideological manifesto, an incentive for further doctors to reject the conscience clause and sign up for abortion activism.

Conscience clause. Law, not ‘marriage’

In Jagielska's speech, there was a message about "pro-life organization's marches, occupation disturbance, hey." 1 cannot ignore that pro-life environments have the full constitutional and moral right to manifest views, picketing and expressing opposition to abortion. This is not a "hejt". It's a civic voice of conscience.

“Man of the Year” as a narration tool

The ‘Electoral Gazette’ is simply a letter with a clearly defined programming line. The choice of Jagielski as Man of the Year is not a neutral gesture. It is simply a signal to the medical community, to politicians and to the public. A signal saying, here's a pattern to follow.

The title of Man of the Year should go to individual who has done something outstanding, saved lives, built something permanent, changed the planet for the better. Doctors receive specified distinctions for pioneering operations, for years of missionary work under the most hard conditions, for discoveries that prolong human life. Jagielska is not in this category. Her “achievement” is the only 1 curious in the “Election Gazette” to be willing to kill unborn children and to publically show this readiness.

Simply put, “Gazeta Wyborcza” awarded the doctor for abortion. Let us not put this in euphemisms about "standards" and "women's rights". On 1 scale lies unborn, or human beings in the earliest phase of their lives, with a beating heart, with their own DNA, with their own biological identity. On the second ideological project, which has been trying to convince Poland for years that the deprivation of their lives is an act of courage and progress.

In this war for the meaning of the words “Man of the Year” ceases to be a distinction. He's becoming a manifesto. It becomes a manual for another doctor: do what she does and you'll be hailed a hero. Say no, and it'll end in hate, tails and force to change jobs. That's not an incentive for good medicine. It's the force to quit your conscience.

That is why the pro-life voice in this debate is not the cry of fanatics in the margins. This is the voice of those who remember that medicine for centuries built its authority on 1 fundamental principle: primam non nodere, first do not harm. erstwhile this regulation begins to have exceptions depending on the patient's age and ability to defend himself, something medical vocation in fact is broken – quietly, officially and with a reward in hand.
