Most Americans believe U.S. president Donald Trump uses duties on imported goods to negociate and then cancel them — according to a CBS tv survey conducted jointly with YouGov.

According to a poll, 59% of Americans stated that Trump, imposing duties, intends to usage them to negociate and then cancel them. The other opinion was 41% of respondents.

The survey was conducted on 8-11 April 2025 among over 2,400 adult Americans. The statistical mistake of the consequence was about 2.4 percent points.

On 2 April, Trump signed an implementing regulation imposing ‘mutual’ customs duties on imports from another countries. Their base rate is 10 percent.
