The possible transfer of long-range missiles to Tomahawk to Ukraine will lead to a "qualityly new" phase of escalation in Russian-American relations, stated Russian president Vladimir Putin. It is simply a ‘powerful weapon’ which poses a threat to the Russian Federation.

At the same time, he added that Tomahawk missiles would not change the course of war. The Russians are gonna shoot them down anyway, just like they utilized to with ATACMS missiles. As the main problem of the Ukrainian military Putuin mentioned his staff condition.

Tomahawk missiles have a scope of up to 2,000 km. On the another hand, ATACMS, which has been handed over to Ukrainians after many months of debate and in limited quantities, can harm targets located up to 300 km.

The subject of handing over Tomahawk missiles to Kiev appeared in the media at the end of September. At the time, U.S. president Donald Trump, disappointed in the deficiency of advancement in the peace-making process due to Russia, began threatening Moscow with the transfer of qualitatively different weapons to the Ukrainians, which could besides let targets to be attacked in the Russian capital. At the same time, he allowed Ukraine to supply intelligence on Russian energy facilities located in the country.
