Russian president Vladimir Putin attended a Christmas service. He spent the shepherd in the military surroundings and their families.
At the end of the service, the head of Russia gave a short speech in which he declared that soldiers participating in the fighting in Ukraine carry outfor God "a sacred mission". He besides addressed the children of these soldiers. He said they could be arrogant of their fathers. Again, he assured that he believed in their victory.
Also during the fresh Year’s message Putin focused on military themes. He left the another problems of the country completely unnoticed.
The Russian authorities, unlike Ukrainians, disagreed with the proposal to conclude a truce for Christmas.
The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates them in accordance with the Julian calendar, while Ukrainian Orthodox since 2023 celebrate Christmas at the same time as Catholics. This is 1 of the effects of the Russian invasion that has been in existence since February 2022.
