Moscowtimes.ru: The last large European client of “Gazpromu” wants to buy gas from Turkmenistan

Hungary, the largest European partner of the Gazprom at the moment, is planning to supply natural gas from Turkmenistan. The country besides concluded contracts for the supply of liquefied gas from France and large Britain.

Budapest’s contract with ‘Gazprom’ does not expire until 2036. Currently, Hungary pays Russia monthly for the gas and oil supply of nearly EUR 500 million. Russian gas besides buys Slovakia. However, the value of supplies is much lower – around EUR 50 million per month.

In 2024 18% of natural gas imported into the European Union came from Russia. By 2028, EU countries are expected to become completely independent of Russian supplies. Hungary, France, Slovakia, Belgium and Spain are presently the biggest importers. Natural gas imports were not subject to sanctions.

The US administration demands the EU to halt buying oil and gas from Russia if Washington is to tighten economical sanctions against Moscow.
