Despite efforts by the American administration to end the war in Ukraine, Moscow's appetite for fresh Ukrainian territories is steadily increasing. According to the message of Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Pieskov, the inhabitants of the 2 largest confederate cities of Ukraine – Odessa and Mikołajew – “join” Russia.
According to the Cremel official, their residents are presently incapable to "raise their voices" in favour of integration with the Russian Federation: "This simply threatens their lives".
Peskov did not mention the regular fire of civilian infrastructure of the mentioned towns by the Russian army.
The alleged politician of the Kherson Oblast Vladimir Saldo, appointed by Moscow, stated that in the event of a referendum in Odessa and Mikołajew, his consequence would reflect the desire of their residents to join Russia.
The objections to Odessa and Nicholasov Russian politicians have been reported many times. In the early stages of the invasion, in the early spring of 2022, the Russians attempted to occupy these cities. However, Ukrainians managed to defend them and virtually neutralize the Russian fleet in the Black Sea.
