On 11 June 1945, the body of the cruelly murdered Bronisława Mendon, daughter of Stanisław and Zofia, was found in the basement of the building at 12 Tannenbaum Street in Rzeszów. The body was found in a tenant's cell that belonged to 1 of the 2 flats on the second floor, inhabited by Jews. Moreover, the second premises in this storey were besides occupied by representatives of this national-faith group. A full of respective adult judaic men were included in the ellipse of suspicion.
Unfortunately, the substance in question has never been explained by the theoretically appointed for this service. The events that followed leave no illusions. individual was curious in never identifying the perpetrator (or perpetrators). The body was scalped, and many cuts were seen on the victim's legs. 1 of the suspected Jews was a ritual sculpture, and a note with Hebrew inscription was found next to the corpse. many traces of the victim were besides found in the flat itself, to which the specified basement area was assigned.
Thanks to the 3DOM release, a work appeared on our publishing market, which revealed its previously unknown scenes of crime respective decades after the murder. The book entitled “The Ritual Mord in Rzeszow? Historical investigation”, by a well-known judaic problem researcher, Radosław Patlewicz. The reading consists of 2 essential parts, the first of which covers the historical context of judaic ritual murders and the events themselves in Rzeszów, and the second – details of the investigation into Bronisława Mendon.
The work is divided into 5 chapters in full – “Ritual Mord – legend or fact?”, "Social-political background of events from Rzeszów", "Murder of Bronisława Mendon", "Communists and investigation and its findings" and "Hipotesis".
In the strictly historical part we will learn about the current state of investigation relating to the phenomenon of ritual murder. The author besides brings us closer to the basic facts relating to the most crucial book of rabbinic Judaism, which undoubtedly is the Talmud. By feeding on sources, he describes the real attitude of the Jews to blood acquisition, even for medical purposes. He besides cites, among others, a celebrated case St. Simon of the Trident from the 15th century and the evidence that was given in that trial.
He besides describes the past of ritual murders in Poland. It then goes to the direct background of historical events in Rzeszów. He discusses the reality of shortly after the war of Poland, where the communist authorities took over. In concrete examples, he illustrates the function and position of the Jews in the strategy of government.
The given section of the book has a preliminary role, before considering the basic subject, or approximation of facts concerning the death of Bronisława Mendon. It helps the reader, who may not be sufficiently acquainted with the realities just after the war, as well as judaic issues, realize the next chapters of the study. The author describes everything that could be established about the substance respective decades after the events.
It brings us closer to the past and background of the investigation, to the action of the injustice of the time and to the communist safety authorities. It besides describes the activity of the russian apparatus that intervened in the course of the investigation. A large deal of work by the Author is visible to the bare eye to gather all this information. After they were collected, arranged, and carefully analysed, they were utilized to prepare a realistic reconstruction of events. Especially interesting are the final pages of the book on which we will find, among others, an opinion prepared by the modern prosecutor.
What is crucial in the survey of a highly analytical character, reading the book is fluid. The author was able to prepare it in specified a way that the reader could not be overwhelmed by it despite the large news. The data are presented in a logical and consistent manner, making it easier for the recipients to draw their own conclusions from the collected material.
The information provided is carefully structured, thus avoiding the impression of chaos that could happen with this amount of information in theory. The number of detailed papers analysed is impressive. The impression is made by an extended bibliography, placed at the end of the book as well as rich footnotes. They illustrate the effort that the author had to make to bring the substance closer to us after all these years, despite the apparent cover-up.
In conclusion, I believe that the book “The Ritual Mord in Rzeszów? Historical investigation" is simply a mandatory reading for anyone who is truly curious in judaic issues. While much has already been written about the judaic subject, this work, for apparent reasons, is different from all. Undoubtedly, this book so fills an crucial gap that occurred on our home publishing marketplace before it was published.
While maintaining the affordability of the language, the author presents a truly technological workshop in it, reaching for a specific, tragic case years ago. So, in 1945, only a fewer decades ago, did the judaic ritual execution happen in our country on an innocent Polish child? The answer to this question is given by the reviewed work, building on circumstantial facts and data.
