The Moldovan police present reported the detention of a Azerbaijani citizen who was to spy on Russian peculiar services.
"Officers of the National Inspectorate of Investigation (INI), together with officials of the Police office in Chisinau, with the support of the peculiar Police Brigade “Fulger” and in cooperation with the Prosecutors of PCCOCS (Prosecution for Combating Organized Crime and peculiar Affairs), study on the detention of a 49-year-old man from Azerbaijan, suspected of an unauthorised collection of information for representatives of the peculiar services of the Russian Federation", stated INI in a communication.
It was added that the detention took place in criminal proceedings after INI officers obtained information in August about his recruitment by representatives of the Russian peculiar Services.
INI stressed that "from the information collected in the documentation it appears that the man was trained for diversion activities in the territory of Ukraine and Moldova". His interests included military facilities in the country as well as U.S. facilities.
As explained, the information collected by him was to be provided to the individual acting as its coordinator, to whom “there is data indicating that he is simply a typical of the peculiar services of the Russian Federation”.
"As a consequence of the search, police secured a mobile phone. The analysis of the device revealed data indicating the existence of contacts with a individual who allegedly presented himself as an worker of the national safety Service of the Russian Federation", stressed INI.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Romanian intelligence service SRI stated that it thwarted the ‘sabotage operation’ involving a Russian citizen surviving in Romania. The man has been detained.
