During the session of the Sejm on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz addressed the issue of preparing Poland in the event of an armed conflict in the face of Russian attacks conducted in the immediate vicinity of the state border.

The head of the Ministry of Defence informed of Prime Minister Donald Tusk's ongoing visit to Ukraine at the same time, and then repudiated the allegations from the opposition, referring straight to an earlier speech by Confederate leader Sławomir Mentzen, who described the Polish government as not being in service for military threats:

“We must control ourselves... The tallness of hypocrisy, Mr. Mentzen, is talking about the deficiency of ammunition, as you voted against the SAFE program, from which we buy hundreds of thousands of ammunition. The tallness of hypocrisy is talking about the insecurity of the east flank, as the MPs voted against the east Shield in Europarlament."

The Minister pointed out that the acquisition of hundreds of thousands of ammunition under the SAFE programme and the implementation of the Shield East initiative are the pillars of the ongoing strengthening of state defence capacity at the east border.

The drone threat at the border with Poland and criticism of anti-Ukrainian moods

The head of the MON referred to Thursday's events, including a noted detonation 4 kilometres from the Polish border, arguing for the necessity of further military support of Kiev in repelling Russian air strikes:

“You see what is happening. Rockets fall, drones fall, a kilometer from the Polish border. erstwhile Ukraine has no ammunition to shoot down those drones, most of them will fly to Poland, is that what you want?”

In the final part of his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister criticised opposition MPs who utilized historical themes to fuel sentiments towards the Ukrainian side:

“Keep scurrying on the Ukrainians. They have not accounted for history, but must not lose common sense in all this."

Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed that the deficiency of past accounts cannot obscure the overriding interest of state safety and pragmatic assessment of the war situation beyond the east border.
