The Veteran Center and the Military Medical Institute encourage veterans to execute preventive gynaecological tests. On February 17th, a program begins in which women can undergo comprehensive diagnostics in WIM. statistic are alarming: only 20 percent of patients have breast cancer detected in the first stage. Doctors guarantee that early diagnosis helps to overcome the disease.
Prevention studies, educational lectures and individual consultations with specialists – specified an offer for women soldiers who served on missions, have the Veteran Centre and Veteran Treatment Centre – Military Medical Institute. All within the framework of the wellness Mission task on the diagnosis of women's diseases. The next edition of the program starts on 17 February. Veterans who will be able to apply to WIM can number not only on preventive tests but besides on the care of specialists. They will be provided, among others, with mammography and chest ultrasound, gynaecological examinations, as well as individual consultations.
– This task is primarily an expression of concern for women – veterans. We want to remind them that their wellness is as crucial as the service which they have served for Poland over the years. all day they care about others, for safety and common good, and we want to encourage them to take care of themselves with the same attention," he says. Research saves lives
– The interest in last year's autumn edition of the wellness Mission was rather large – says Beata Furtak, caregiver of the WIM oncology clinic and provincial consultant in oncology nursing. Veterans passed diagnostic examinations and listened to a lecture on cancer prevention in gynecology. During this meeting, Beata Furtak explained the importance of cytology and vaccination against the Human Papillomavirus. She besides mentioned the most common gynecological tumors: the insidious ovarian cancer, which is usually detected alternatively late or cervical cancer, which, erstwhile detected at the right time, gives almost 100% healing. “I encourage cyclic gynaecological investigation by another veterans, due to the fact that truly investigation can save women’s lives,” concludes the caregiver of the WIM oncology clinic.

– During meetings under the wellness Mission programme, we supply consultation to patients with our specialists in oncological surgery in the field of breast diseases and oncological gynecology – says Colonel Jarosław Świstak, Head of the WIM Veterans Treatment Centre. It assures that the results of the investigation are available immediately, due to the fact that they are described by WIM radiologists. If it turns out that 1 of the patients needs further diagnostics, they will be placed under the care of doctors in WIM. Veterans' research, which was conducted in the fall, showed that any patients were targeted for further diagnostics.
In Poland, the early detection of breast cancer is only 20 percent. That's very little. Cancers detected at an early phase are 100 percent treatable. The statistic are alarming: 50 women per 100,000 per year. The Pole hears the diagnosis: breast cancer. Unfortunately, only 20 percent of them are detectable at an early stage.
