In the face of rising costs of life and financial problems of Poles, ministries do not quit additional gratuities for their officials. As the diary “Fakt” revealed, from January to October 2023 ministries spent a full of PLN 51.7 million on awards for officials. The largest amount was allocated to the Ministry of Finance, which spent almost half of the full amount on bonuses for 3108 people.

The awards in the Ministry of Finance, led by Minister Andrzej Domański, averaged PLN 3785.25 per person. It is simply a ministry responsible, among others, for draft laws that are expected to bring relief to citizens in hard times – specified as expanding the amount of taxation free or changing the alleged Belka tax.

The second place in terms of the amount of awards is taken by the Ministry of abroad Affairs (MFM), where bonuses ranged from PLN 300 to PLN 12 thousand. The 3rd place included the Ministry of National Defence (MON), where employees were awarded, among others, for participating in the 25th anniversary of Poland's membership of NATO and for organizing the Polish Army holiday.

Do the regulations explain the expenses for the authoritative awards?

Representatives of the ministries stress that the award of prizes is based on the existing rules which supply for the creation of peculiar funds for this purpose. Importantly, the awards are not granted to the highest officials – ministers and deputy ministers, as well as employees of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. However, the decision to spend money on bonuses for officials creates controversy, especially at a time erstwhile many Poles face budgetary problems.
