In Polish media, and especially among politicians, there was a real shock caused by president Trump and his colleagues. Nowhere uncritical belief in Ukrainian communicative regarding military and political aspects of the conflict was as strong as in Poland.
No wonder that among Polish political leaders there was no question: “What if Russia wins?” It is not about triumph in the sense of occupying all Ukraine and triumphant parades in Kiev – it is impossible. However, Russia can keep the territories acquired, and Ukrainian aspirations to NATO will prove unrealistic. Meanwhile, all Polish politics and public debate seem to ignore this scenario, as if its implementation was completely excluded.
Strategic interests and safety policy of Poland have been so closely identified with the interests of Ukraine and its victory, that our country began to be seen almost as a second Ukraine. This has serious consequences – especially since no one, and surely the United States, needs another player playing the same function in the political arrangement. Just the original. So far, Poland has not presented any real peace plan that could be treated as the foundation of the debate. The word "peace" has only late begun to appear in public debate, with clear reluctance.
It can be assumed that a greater recovery will take place erstwhile global troops are formed to carry out a peacekeeping mission – it is known that at least 2 countries – the UK and France – are interested. However, it is crucial to inform against Poland's participation in specified an operation. This would mean sending Polish soldiers to Ukraine without protection resulting from Article 5 of NATO and support of the US Army. If the Polish authorities decide to take this step, Poland will enter into conflict with Russia without any alliance guarantees. We can't add another tragedy to our story.
