After a period of work, the field infirmary in Nysa stopped taking patients. – Without your efforts, it would not be possible to aid 1,100 people in request of medical support in the areas affected by the flood. Your service is further proof that in all situation Poles can number on the support of the Polish Army – summarized the service of the military medics Deputy Prime Minister and defence minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

Nysa Field Hospital was created on 19 September and operated under Operation Fenix. The decision was made by the head of the MON Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish. Medical care in the region had to be guaranteed by the military as the local infirmary suffered during the flood. Patients at the facility had to be evacuated by boats, pontoons and helicopters. The field infirmary was created rapidly, due to the fact that only in 24 hours. It was organized by soldiers of 2nd Military Field infirmary from Wrocław, 25th Air Cavalry Brigade from Tomaszów Mazowiecki and 10th Logistics Brigade from Opole.

Each day, 50 soldiers (even 70 at the highest of the day) were in the 24-hour service, including doctors, nurses, paramedics and logistics personnel. For a month, nearly 1,100 people received medical assistance from soldiers. “In the first days of our operation, erstwhile the medical care strategy in the region was destabilized, we received 1 100 patients a day. The request was immense after the infirmary emergency department was closed in Nysa region infirmary – says Major Mikołaj Kędzierski. The officer commanded the field infirmary twice in weekly cycles. He was the 1 who reported to the superiors about the start of the field infirmary and the 1 who announced yesterday the termination of the facility in Nysa.

– We had patients with myocardial infarction, strokes, electrocution, hypertension as well as people with advanced cancer. Ambulances were besides initially transported to us by victims of motor accidents, patients with epilepsy or women in advanced pregnancy, says Major Kędzierski. Later, military medics were mainly treated by people who needed interior or surgical assistance. “We practically performed tiny surgery on all shift, so we sewed a lot. There were quite a few incidents after the water flowed and people began cleaning their property," explains the commander of the field hospital.

In consequence to the needs of the local population, the infirmary expanded its activities and launched a pediatric block. With the support of civilian Nysa medics, the youngest patients received help. “For us, the most crucial thing is that everyone managed to aid on time,” admits Major Kędzierski. He adds that due to the hard situation in the region and the lost sense of security, many patients needed intellectual support. – All this proves that military doctors are not only professionals during war, but besides valuable specialists in peacetime. Military personnel are versatile, flexible and can be found in all conditions. He copes with various challenges, not only wounds typical of the battlefield," the commander of the field infirmary emphasizes.

The military field infirmary in Nysa was a modular facility, meaning that it was utilized to build containers and tents. This kind of construction was utilized by military personnel on military missions and during coronavirus pandemic. In Nysa, an emergency area with a section for the medical segregation of patients, an infirmary and a surgery area was organized. The infirmary besides prepared a area for increased patient reflection and 25 beds for patients requiring hospitalization or waiting for medical transport.

Due to the reopening of the territory infirmary in Nysa, the military field facility ended its operation.
