Over PLN 5 billion is planning to invest MAN Trucks sp. z o.o. in the expansion of its plant in Niepołomice. This is the largest MAN truck mill in Europe. The task includes, among others, the construction of a mill that produces batteries for trucks and increases production capacity. The Niepołomice plant was visited present by Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
– MAN is simply a world-renowned brand that has invested in Poland and created good jobs in Niepołomice and Starachowice. Thank you for these years of attendance. [...] Poland is simply a safe place to invest," said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz about the German-established company producing dense goods vehicles. MAN Truck & Bus Polska has plants in Niepołomice close Kraków, which already play a key function in the European production strategy of the company. It is the largest MAN truck mill on the continent, which plans to importantly increase its production potential.
The most crucial component of the task is the construction of a highly automated vehicle battery manufacturing plant. For this intent MAN plans to allocate PLN 3.2 billion. The fresh mill is expected to produce more than 200,000 batteries per year and supply about 600 fresh jobs, mainly in the area of modern technology and advanced automation. In parallel, the company intends to invest about PLN 2 billion in expanding the production capacity of dense goods vehicles, which will translate into the creation of another 400 jobs.
Security support
Today, the investment received formal support from the government and self-government. A letter of intent was signed concerning cooperation in its formation in the Niepołomice Investment Zone. The agreement is intended to pave the way for 1 of the most crucial industrial projects in fresh years. The paper was signed by representatives of government administration, local governments of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Wieliczka region and Niepołomice Municipality and Krakow Technology Park, managing the Polish Investment region in this area. Signatories stressed the importance of investments for the region's economical development, employment growth and strengthening the attractiveness of the Niepołomice Investment Zone.
– MAN's investment plans are impressive. It will be a large investment in Poland, implemented within a peculiar investment zone. The joint message of support for this task is an expression of work for the improvement and safety of investments – argued Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. In the context of the modernisation of manufacture and the independency of supply, the head of the Defence Ministry pointed out the importance of production in Europe. “Our goal is to decision to the world's top in the independency of the supply chain. Today, many key products are manufactured outside Europe in India and China. electrical batteries with the highest efficiency and capacity must be produced in Europe," added the Deputy Prime Minister, pointing out that specified investments are in the interests of national security.
Modern production and dual-use technologies
The improvement of battery production and modern peculiar trucks fits into the needs of modern armed forces, including in the area of mobility, energy independency and resilience of logistics systems. A large part of the planned production is intended to cover multi-purpose vehicles (dual-use) which can be utilized in both the civilian and defence sectors.
The production centre in Niepołomice is to be transformed into a complex of modern technologies, in which, in addition to the conventional production of dense goods vehicles, the technologically advanced battery section and extended production capacity for peculiar vehicles will be created. The processes related to electronics and energy management systems will become key. This means that the structure of employment in the plant will change: more jobs will appear for specialists in automation, engineering and logistics.
The second component of the transformation is to increase the production capacity of the trucks themselves. In practice, this means expanding assembly lines, modernising logistics processes inside the plant and introducing fresh production standards. The expansion of production will besides include peculiar vehicles, which in many cases are utilized by state services.
MAN has been working with the military for over 20 years, providing trucks and peculiar vehicles, utilized in logistics, transport and method safety systems. Production carried out in Poland besides includes vehicles for fire brigades, police and rescue services.
The expansion of the plant in Niepołomice so increases the national production capacity of dense vehicles, which form the basis of military transport logistics.
