Meta, 1 of the largest technological giants, agreed to pay Donald Trump $25 million in damages as part of a suit settlement that he filed after suspension of his Facebook and Instagram accounts in 2021. This information was confirmed by the company’s spokesperson on Wednesday.

Trump sued Meta and its founder Mark Zuckerberg, accusing them of censorship. The decision to suspend his accounts was made on 7 January 2021, after the president, during his first term, allegedly called upon his supporters to question the results of the presidential election, which was to lead to an assault on the Capitol in Washington.

Meta felt that specified conduct violates its principles of incitement to violence. 2 years later, the company announced that it would reconstruct Trump's accounts.

The settlement was first reported by the "Wall Street Journal" and later confirmed by Meta's spokesperson in an interview with AFP.

Zuckerberg, who participated in the inauguration of Donald Trump's second term, announced changes in the company's strategy in January, adapting it to the policy of the fresh US administration. He decided to appoint respective presidential allies for key positions in Meta and to end programmes promoting, for example, diversity, which were severely criticized by conservatives.
