German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, on Thursday on an authoritative visit to the United States, handed president Donald Trump a copy of his grandfather's birth certificate.
The German Chancellor flew to Trump. abruptly he pulled his ancestor's papers from Germany
This document, coming from German archives, is symbolic and refers to the household roots of the American leader, any of whom originate from Germany. The gathering of both politicians aimed to strengthen the relation between Berlin and Washington.
German Deutsche Welle in 2019 wrote that Donald Trump's ancestors came from a tiny German village called Kallstadt, located in the idyllic region of Rhineland-Palatinate.
The village has only 1,200 inhabitants and is primarily celebrated for its wine production. On its authoritative website it is referred to as "a culinary mark for wine lovers", and a fast look at the local telephone book confirms this reputation – it is full of conventional wine cellars and cellars with classically German names.
What do we know about Trump's German roots?
Wine is not only local pride, but besides the main attraction for tourists from all over the world. As the inhabitants emphasize, the number of places available for tastings in Kallstadt is twice the number of permanent residents.
No 1 named Trump lives in Kallstadt. Although many residents may be distant relatives of an American billionaire, the name has long disappeared from the local records – as a consequence of generations of marriages that introduced fresh names to families.
According to a local telephone book, 10–12 people named Trump live in the surrounding towns today. However, there is small interest in American politics in the region.
– I have nothing to say about what's happening in America. This does not concern us – 1 of the young winemakers told the portal without a doubt.
As the portal emphasized, after tens of telephone calls, a clear image emerges: the descendants of Trump from Palatinate have adequate interest in their American cousin. No 1 wants to comment on the case, and most callers ask for anonymity.
When asked if local residents were even talking about Donald Trump, 1 of the men replied: "No 1 would dare publically say what they truly think. That's the problem. It looks different behind closed doors.
