How to save lives of people with severe injuries, they learned at the Military Medical Institute in Warsaw medical specialists from the infirmary in Hajnówka. The facility is 1 of the most crucial points of medical safety for WZZ Podlasie soldiers and the Tarcza East program. specified training will besides be provided for another civilian hospitals in that region.

A young man who was burned by a gas detonation while welding in the garage goes to the hospital's emergency department. The patient is unconscious, has burns to the right hand, face and neck, as well as advanced airways, so paramedics were incapable to execute an intubation to supply him with costly airways. He needs aid from the doctors on the ER.

This was 1 of the scenarios of training prepared by the Medical Simulation Center instructors. Military Medical Institute in Warsaw for civilian medical staff of the infirmary in Hajnówka. “This is the first specified training in the field of combat medicine, emergency states and mass events organised for civilian healthcare representatives,” he says. General weapon prof. n. med. Grzegorz GielerakDirector of WIM.

RECLAMA

As he adds, the infirmary in Hajnówka, due to its location, is on the first line of medical safety for operations “Safe Podlasie”, is besides 1 of the most crucial medical points within the framework of the Tarcza East programme.
A three-day course in WIM in the field of resuscitation and surgical techniques utilized in the field of combat injuries was attended by six people from the Independent Public wellness Care Department in Hajnówka: doctors, nurses and paramedics.

– specified training is essential for us, due to the fact that in connection with the operation on the Polish-Belarusian border, care for the soldiers and officers serving there and the request to deal with their injuries related to the service, explains Dr. Med. Tomasz Musiuk, manager of infirmary medicine in Hajnówka.

According to Musik, the origin of injuries to the military infirmary is, among others, falls from a height, communication accidents, wounds from the concentration, but besides injuries caused by attacks of migrants. “ Fortunately, we don’t have much of these dense cases, but we should be ready for them,” says the doctor.

The most severe of specified attacks on soldiers of the Military Task Force Podlasie ended with the death of the Sgt. Matthew Sitka. On May 28, 2024, a soldier of the 1st Warsaw Panzer Brigade was attacked by a knife by 1 of the migrants and went to a infirmary in Hajnówka, where he was operated. Unfortunately, despite being helped and transported to WIM, the soldier died a fewer days later.

– During the training, we teach patients how to deal with injuries under the alleged harm Control Resuscitation and harm Control Surgery, which is to conduct the most urgent, life-saving rescue and surgical activities," explains Łukasz Bilski, the WIM Medical Simulation Division instructor. He adds that the intent of the students is to identify injuries that endanger his life and the essential assistance in their case, including, among another things, stopping intense bleeding, administering the most urgent medications or airway obstructions. “In the treatment of these abrupt injuries, we usage procedures and strategies of field medicine,” Bilski points out.

The WIM instructors usage advanced, computer-controlled medical simulators during the course, which accurately mimic the physiological reactions of the human body, vital disorders and injuries. – Thanks to this, our students not only participate in lectures, but can besides immediately usage their cognition in practice. They practice not only medical procedures, but besides work in a squad – says Paweł Oskwarek, teacher of the Medical Simulation Centre.

During the 3 days of training, participants had to deal, among others, with "patients" with intense interior haemorrhage, cardiac arrest under trauma, deep hypothermia, gunshot wound or limb amputation. In the case of a patient with burns, the precedence was airway obstruction. due to the fact that he could not be intubated, the squad performed a life-saving conjunctectomy, which means that he introduced a tube into the trachea through an incision in the neck.
The medics besides applied gel burns, administered fluids, checked for another injuries, secured him from hypothermia, and transferred him to the burn ward of another hospital. “They have done very well, this is the best simulation so far, you can see that they draw conclusions from erstwhile exercises and make cooperation in the team,” Osquark emphasized.

As General Gielerak announces, further specified training will be conducted at the Military Medical Institute. “The second group from Hajnówka arrives tomorrow, the next 2 will practice in September,” the manager of the facility says. besides in September, WIM wants to organize large medical exercises of military and civilian services in Hajnówka to show how civil-military medical resources can be combined in a crisis situation.

– We would like to draw up, on the example of this pilot course, a strategy for further training and another procedures for civilian medical entities operating in the east border area, in order to be able to operate efficiently in the framework of the medical safety of WZZ Podlasie and the Tarcza East programme, says General Gierelak. He says that about 19 hospitals from that region will be involved.
