The Embassy of Japan invites you to a lecture entitled “Japan’s abroad Policy and safety Challenges”, which will be given by Mr. Hiroyuki Akita, writer Nikkei.

The lecture will be followed by a discussion which will grow the subject to include a European position and possible directions for further cooperation between Japan and Europe. The debate will be moderated by Prof. Małgorzata Bonikowska, president of the Centre for global Relations.
On the speaker:
Hiroyuki Akita is simply a nipponese writer for Nikkei. He regularly prepares comments and columnaries, primarily examining global safety issues. Associated with Nikkei since 1987, he was initially an editor in the political department, where he dealt with nipponese national, abroad and safety policies. He served as elder editor from 2009 to 2017, and worked for the Financial Times in London from October to December 2016.
He was a correspondent in Beijing (1994-1998) and Washington (2002-2006). While in Beijing, he reported, among others, the death of Deng Xiaoping and the handover of Hong Kong to China. In Washington, D.C., he dealt mainly with issues related to the White House, the Pentagon, and the State Department during president George W. Bush's administration.
He graduated from Jiyu Gakuen College in 1987 and Boston University (M.A.). From 2006 to 2007, he was a associate in a Japanese-American program at Harvard University. In March 2019, he received the Vaughn-Ueda global writer Award for his journalistic achievements. He is the author of 2 books in Japanese: “Anryu (Power Game of US-China-Japan)” (2008) and “Ranryu (Strategic Competition of US-Japan and China)” (2016).
