The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that on Wednesday night on Thursday, the anti-aircraft defence captured and destroyed 44 Ukrainian drones, including 9 over the Volgograd circuit. On the night of August 13, Volgograd residents reported an attack on a territory with an oil plant, but drones failed to scope their destination.
Eyewitnesses reported that the explosions began after 2:30 a.m. and the loudest of them were reported in the Krasnoarmian district. Residents have heard at least five–seven strong detonations. 1 of the drones shot down was expected to fall into the built-up area, triggering a fire and thick smoke.
Around 11:29 p.m. Volgograd airport introduced a safety protocol, temporarily suspending all arrivals and departures.
The Łukoil Company, the owner of the refinery, did not comment in consequence to a request from the Reuters agency.
W Volgograd operates a Łukoil refinery, 1 of the largest oil producers in the confederate national District, with yearly production capacity of up to 14.8 million tonnes. The plant was already twice the mark of attacks by Ukrainian drones in February this year.
