Chinese merchant fleet, second planet fleet

By the end of 2022, the displacement of all Chinese merchant fleet ships reached 370 million tonnes, which gave it second place in the world.

Chinese ships carry around 95% of the full volume of Chinese abroad trade, which is of importance for the national economy and its development.

In the Chinese merchant navy, 1.9 million registered sailors worked last year, of which 900,000 were sea crew members, and 1 million were inland shipping crews.

In 2022, 127,000 Chinese sailors sailed under a abroad flag.

If this data is added to the capacity of Chinese ports, a worldwide network of shipping lines regularly operated by Chinese ships and connecting the mediate State to more than 100 countries (including all members of the ‘One Way, 1 Belt’ (chin. ‘一条路一条带’) initiative with access to the sea) and the production capacity of Chinese shipbuilding industry, it is hard to overlook that in the past 30 years China has grown into a maritime power on a global scale.

Chinese Navy World's Second

The planet Directory of Modern Military Wars service published another ranking of the planet Navy fleets.

The size and strength of a given navy was assessed on the basis not only of the full number of units in service, but besides the number of fresh units, the quality of modernization of older, the efficiency and size of logistics support, the repair facilities, the ability to attack and defend, combat experience, frequency and kind of exercises and maneuvers, etc.

In the latest ranking of the Navy People's – Liberation Army of China (chin. 中国人民解放军海军) placed second with 425 units in service.

First place took (as usual) While the United States has only 243 units in service, but presenting a much wider scope of types of ships, greater firepower, definitely much greater combat experience, and an undisputed advantage in terms of the number of carriers owned (US 11, China 3) and associated vessels.

According to the ranking authors, the Chinese Navy fleet is younger (the average age of the unit is 13.8 years, in the case of the US fleet it is 23.3 years) and is younger from year to year, as ships built by Chinese shipyards successively enter the service.

China – according to the planet Directory of Modern Military Warships – is doing well with the successive improvement of its maritime position, bringing newer and more modern units into service. As a result, 1 day they will overtake the United States as the dominant naval power in the world.
