On 14 February 2026, TVN24 aired interview with Marta Nawrocka, wife of the president of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki. The conversation was conducted by station writer Joanna Kryńska.
The questions afraid mainly the worldview: in vitro, abortion and individual beliefs of the first lady. Nawrocka said that "she could not restrict the right to in vitro to another women", and in the case of abortion she declared that she was "for life", avoiding clear answers to the legal conditions in force.
After the issue started the avalanche of comments on both websites and social media. any pointed out her confusion and inconsistency, others defended her against ridicule and hate.
These reactions show first and foremost 1 thing: detached from the reality of waiting for the President's wife.
What precisely was expected of Marc Nawrocka? That she would shine intellectually, conduct in-depth analyses and surpass her husband's reflection level, Karol Nawrocki? If that were the case, the logical question would be, why didn't she run for president?
If the facts of Nawrocki's past are revealed today, it is apparent that his wife had to know and accept them. If she accepted it, that means that choice suits her. If it were not, the relation would fall apart.
So all the hysteria around the competence and morality of the first woman is barren. Since those who hold the highest positions in the country frequently present a very low level, there is no reason to anticipate the president and his surroundings to be above average.
It's not a coincidence. This is the effect of the 1989 transformational arrangement, which provided the erstwhile elite with a safe transition to a fresh strategy without settlement and without real staff exchanges. The state was built on compromise, not responsibility. The effects are inactive visible today.
As a result, public debate has been around substitute topics for years. In vitro, abortion, abortion pills, and morals origin emotions, but they do not solve any real problems of the state.
The most crucial for citizens are the economy and finances. However, erstwhile there is simply a budget debate in the Sejm, there are individuals in the room. erstwhile world-view disputes arise – places fill up immediately. You request cognition and experience to discuss economical issues. On moral matters, anyone can shout “for” or “against”.
The questions addressed to Marty Nawrocka were just specified a character: their task was to provoke emotions, not to have a meaningful conversation. It was about the show.
For years, the media has attached large importance to the wives of presidents. Just remind Agata Duda, criticized for her silence and deficiency of clarity. It was expected to have activity, opinions, initiatives.
Except the first woman is not a state organ. Whether it speaks, whether it is silent, whether it is in salons or disappears from the media – it does not substance to the functioning of the economy, public finances or institutions.
The first ladies are indeed decorative. They're political jewelry. It is expected to shine, but it does not shine due to the fact that it is not made of noble materials.
For years, the story has besides been repeated that Jolanta Kwasniewska was a model. fewer people remember her beginnings. Very quickly, however, it turned out that she was suited to life in a flash, worldliness and being among the heads of states. Her image has been efficiently crafted: outfits, hairstyles, PR advisors and friendly media. In time, she was made a kind icon.
Dressing and promoting a man is easy. It's much harder to influence his intellectual development.
If individual from the first woman expects a glichtru first, they can sigh to Melania Trump. If individual expects a state format, they should first ask whether there is an environment in national politics from which specified characters can emerge.
So far, Poland has not had a president who could be a model not only of politics but besides of man. Neither was the first woman to fulfill excessive social ambitions. And not due to the fact that someone's got the incorrect hairstyle or wardrobe, but due to the fact that you can't get the gold out of a sterile stream.
All the fuss around Marty Nawrocka is classical media clickbait. It has nothing to do with the state debate. But it drives emotions and ratings perfectly.
A simple authoritative is not expected to have mental-research fireworks. Society chose specified a president – and thus specified a first lady. For this reason, the interview with the president proved to be a failure of both her and the interviewer Kryńska and TVN24.
