Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik without immunity. Euro MPs have decided

The European Parliament has decided to waive the immunity of MEPs Maciej Wąsik and Mariusz Kamiński. The Polish prosecution accuses them of not complying with the final judgement of the court to prohibit them from acting as public office.

Parliament's legal committee recommended waiving the immunity of Wąsik and Kamiński in the second half of March, and now the European Parliament has acceded to this recommendation.

EU procedures impose on the EP president Roberta Metsola the work to communicate the decision to both MEPs and applicable Polish authorities.

Wrist and Kamiński without EP immunity

Requests to waive immunity to PiS politicians were sent to Metsola at the end of July 2024 by the Minister of Justice and the lawyer General Adam Bodnar.

The prosecution accuses erstwhile ministers that did not comply with the final judgement of the court to prohibit them from acting as public office. Investigators are of the opinion that Wąsik and Kamiński voted illegally at the session of the Sejm after they were convicted of actions in connection with the alleged land scandal.

Both politicians say they stayed effectively pardoned by president Andrzej Duda. In their opinion, the full issue is politically motivated and the current authorities in Poland are incapable to guarantee that the process is fair.

The failure of parliamentary immunity means that average procedural, preparatory actions can be carried out against the MEPs of the Law and that in future, they may besides hear allegations and be prosecuted.

In turn at the erstwhile session on 11 March EP voted to waive immunity to Adam Bielan. The case concerns a private indictment with which the policies of the Confederation of Przemysław Wipler have been raised.
